Dear Actives:
I’m a little disappointed that not one recruit is from outside the state of Tennessee. As an alum from N.J., I feel compelled to urge the active chapter to seek young men from other areas of the country that can add depth and diversity to the chapter. It’s not that I question your selections, I merely wonder if this rush strategy might promote parochial attitudes and insular thinking in a world that doesn’t reward lockstep homogeneity.
Fraternally,
Brother Roger Lang (1971)
I agree with Brother Lang’s remarks concerning concentration of membership. One of the many many rewarding aspects of fraternity life is the friendship of men from all parts of the country. The different cultures, lifestyles, and ideas expand all of us. In summary, if it were not for Sig Ep I would have missed knowing Zeke Schmus! Now that IS a life’s adventure! Mike Woody, ’69 East Nashville, Tennessee now Destin, Florida
Roger and Mike – Thanks for the comments. It’s actually very odd for us not to have some out of state guys in our pledge class. We have two guys in the chapter from New Jersey currently as well as others from as far away as Colorado. For some reason, we just didn’t have any rush recs from out of state this year. If you guys know of any…send them our way!
Fraternally,
Kelly
Congratulations to Cole Collier
