Andy Stallings

Andrew Haywood “Andy” Stallings, age 78 died April 17, 2023 after a valiant 10 year fight against Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife, Emily Binning Stallings, his daughter Catherine Wynndell Stallings from West Palm Beach, Florida and many wonderful cousins and “outlaws”. He is preceded in death by his father, Bernard William Stallings, his mother Constance Shoun Stallings, and his brother Bernard William Stallings, Jr.

Andy always had a warm smile and beautiful baby blues which twinkled with just a hint of mischief behind them. Endlessly charming, he also possessed a brilliant mind and was an excellent judge of character. As hard working and determined as he was in his professional life, Andy was also kind, generous and patient with others as well. He held the bar high for all of us then encouraged our collective success. Andrew was, quite simply, a good man!
Born and raised in Boone, Andy graduated from Appalachian High School with awards from The Rotary Club Boy of the Year and the National Honor Society. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Industrial Management where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and his brothers to this day are known as “The Melrose Group”. Andy was passionate about UT football- Go Big Orange! He later received his MBA from Keller School of Business in Chicago, Illinois. Andy served in the US Air Force from 1966-1971 as an aircraft maintenance officer with the rank of Captain.

Andy started his career in construction in Nashville, Tennessee with a regional general contracting firm. He then utilized his skills for Carter and Associates with responsibility for One Commerce Place in Nashville. In 1980, he joined  what was then known as Gerald D. Hines Interest and eventually became Senior Vice President of Construction building over 9 million square feet of Fortune 500 properties. One of Andy’s favorite projects was the home of the Padres, Petco Park in San Diego, California.

In 2009, Andy and Emily returned to Boone, North Carolina. He became actively involved with SAHA, Horn in the West, and served on the Board of Directors for the newly renovated Appalachian Theater. He also supported Emily in “The Turkey Trot” for Hospitality House, Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge, and the reconstruction of the Moses Cone Estate in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

We give thanks to the dedicated staff of Medi Home Hospice and his wonderful caregivers Bridgett, April and Susan.
